Each of our rabbis brings a unique set of gifts to serve the congregation’s needs. All have received smichah (ordination) from both the Union of Messianic Jewish Congregations (UMJC) and The Messianic Jewish Rabbinical Council (MJRC).

In addition to our rabbis, our synagogue relies on lay participation in service-leading. Aside from having lovely voices, our shlichei tsibbor (liturgical leaders) bring real spiritual passion to their leading the congregation through Shabbat and Holy Day worship.

Joseph Miterko
Rabbinic Intern

Joe was born and raised within the Messianic Jewish movement, having attended sleepovers at Ruach Israel as a teen. Now, many years later, he is an intern at Ruach Israel, specifically helping with education, music, and ritual life. He received his B.A. in Contemporary Writing and Production from Berklee College of Music and his M.Div in Messianic Jewish Studies from Talbot School of Theology. Along with his duties at the Congregation, Joe is a Music Teacher at Yamaha Music School of Boston and Park Street School.

Nathan Morel
Rabbinic Intern

Nathan joined the Ruach Israel community in the fall of 2017 to begin his rabbinic internship through the UMJC K20 program. He serves the community in a number of ways, particularly by helping lead Ruach Israel’s young adult community. Nathan currently studies at MJTI and resides at the Congregation’s Messianic Jewish community house in Boston, called Ruach House.

Originally from Florida, Nathan is a fourth generation Messianic Jew, having been raised in a Messianic Jewish home. He graduated from the University of Tampa in 2017 with a Bachelor’s of Music in Piano Performance. He loves playing music and also likes the outdoors, reading books, and moseying around the beautiful city of Boston.

Shayna Kaufmann
Community Coordinator

Shayna started calling Ruach Israel her spiritual home in the summer of 2016, after moving back to the East Coast, where she grew up and attended college. She quickly plugged into a music team, started lay leading services as a shaliach tzibbur and became one of the leaders of Ruach’s Boston-based young adult community, CityRuach. In September of 2017, she left her job as a personal-lines insurance underwriter for a full-time position as the congregation’s Community Coordinator (Madrikha in training) and moved into Ruach’s new young adult Messianic Jewish community house in Boston, Ruach House. Shayna is most in her element when behind a computer handling administrative tasks!
